1. Prepare the Entire Tools

You will need building tape measurement and also calculator. If you do not really sure on your memory, you should also bring a note to write down your calculation.

2. Know the Available Size

There are sizes for air conditioner on supplier. Know them all so you know well later which one you will need to buy.

3. Measure Square Footage

You need to multiply the length and width of the room. The height does not affect so much. This is how you get the square footage.

4. BTU Measurement

There are 337 BTU on every square footage. To make the measurement, multiply the square footage with the number. Then write it down before you continue on the next step.

5. North and South Window

Multiply the length and width of the North window, and multiply the number with 166. Do the same on South windows, and multiply by 871. 6. Count the People

Each people generate 400 BTU. To make sure it is enough for capacity, multiply the number of people and family members by 400.

7. Watts on Lights

Count every watt your lights have and multiply it by 4.25 BTU. For each 10 watts bulb, multiply it by 425 BTU. Add them all.

8. Other Machines or Appliances

We will calculate the maximum usage of each appliance. Count the watts, and multiply it by 3.15.

9. Total BTU

The total BTU will be derived from total amount of those BTUs we calculate. Add them all, and write down the sum up result. This is the total BTU your air conditioner needs to provide.
